Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning

The Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L) is a multidisciplinary research team exploring how people and systems learn, adapt, and evolve in complex, fast-changing environments. We design hybrid human–AI learning ecosystems that enhance human capability, agency, and wellbeing.

Grounded in a complex science approach, we take a holistic, systems-based view of learning—moving beyond traditional methods to address today’s interconnected challenges.

Through research, tools, and initiatives, we translate knowledge into practice—empowering learners, strengthening institutions, and building systems that continuously learn and grow.

What kind of humans do we want technology and education systems to help people become?

This guiding question shapes the Centre’s research, partnerships, and practice. We understand learning as human development within complex, adaptive systems, and this perspective informs how we define research problems, choose methods, design interventions, and evaluate impact across diverse educational and community contexts.
